Planning the Position Tree
Before starting the setup it is important to plan out the levels needed and the position name pattern for the tree.
Levels
The position tree like an org chart has hierarchical levels denoting which person reports to another on the Team.

The levels of the position tree should be thought out and even written down prior to starting the creation of the position tree. Think about the people that will be working on the Team and how many levels of supervisory will be needed.
In the position tree example above there are three levels.
Pattern
Anything can be entered into the position name field, however without a logical pattern for the position names the Team will soon be confused on the reporting relationship among people.
An example of a naming pattern can be seen below. In this pattern the position names for the supervisors and the MDMs are done geographically.
RM - North East
Boston Central

Stick with a pattern for the setup and then pass on the pattern as the Team moves into operations.
Position Tree Setup
The position tree is blank when it is first opened and simply shows a top node with the Team name used to build the rest of the position tree.

Login to i:c, select your Team, and navigate Manage - Position Tree on the menu.
There are two sides to the position tree
Left side has admin forms to update the position tree

Right side has the visualization of the position tree
- To create the first positions fill in the Create Position form on the left menu of the position tree screen. Use the levels and pattern created in the planning task for this step as a reference for the setup.

- Enter a Title from the pattern
- Choose a Position Type – check with Payroll if there is a question
- Choose a Supervisor
- Build the position tree from the top down starting with the Supervisors and then adding the Users below each of them.
An example position:
-
Title – Regional Manager East
-
Position Type – Full Time Field Supervisor
-
Supervisor – No Supervisor (used for top node)
